"Celebrate Cane Grove"

Three days of fete, fun and giveaways.

After many months of planning, we were able to see our dream project materialized. On August 29, 30 and 31, 2014, Cane Grove Reunion Inc. and Friends of Cane Grove, presented “Celebrated Cane Grove“, three days of fete, fun and giveaways. Our objective was to merge fun with commerce and we are pleased to say that the event was a huge success. Friday, August 29, 2014, Strathavon was treated to the sweet sounds of the GDF Steel Band, in addition to great food, drinks, merry-go-round rides, and treats as well as many giveaways.

On Saturday, August 30th and Sunday, August 31st, Cane Grove was serenaded by the number one band in Guyana, Shakti Strings Orchestra which featured many artists including Celia Samaroo and Pooran Seeraj, the reigning 2014 Guyana Chutney Monarch. Just like Strathavon, this two-day extravaganza featured great cuisine and amenities, carnival rides as well as more giveaways. This event was held at the foot of the famous Chain Bridge and was immensely appreciated by everyone. We were honored by the presence of His Excellency President Donald Ramotar, who lavished praises on our effort and our organization as a whole.

The shops, churches, craft center and private vendors all came together to prepare and sell many delicious meals for the attendees. We are pleased to say they were sold out. Approximately 900 families received a package with articles, including 2 pairs of shoes, cosmetic jewelry and assorted body care products, as well as other gifts.

The giveaways in Cane Grove /Strathavon were:

  • 2,450 pairs of shoes
  • 4,000 bags of costume jewelry
  • 100 pair of sunglasses
  • 100 pair of eyeglasses (distribution rescheduled for a later date)
  • 1,400 pieces of assorted body care products
  • 1,500 pens
